This is going to be a mix of The Outsiders book review and also the Broadway show!
I first read the Outsiders in my freshman year of Highschool (I think). I read it a long time ago. I did not like it. I can't totally remember if I absolutely hated it or just didn't like it much. Maybe the only reason I decided to dislike it is because it was for school. This time that I read the Outsiders, I read it after I saw the Broadway show. I loved it! Maybe I just liked it because I loved the show. I thought the book was really good, and it was written like a kid (but in a good way). One cool thing I learned is that S.E. Hinton wrote this when she was 14, so it was technically written by a kid. The story is really nice and we learn about each character.
On to my favorite part of my Outsiders journey....the Broadway show!!! During my Senior Trip, (which I should totally do a blog post on, even though it's unrelated to books) we went to see the Outsiders on Broadway! Honestly, when I found out I was kinda disappointed, I really wanted to see Wicked or Six. But as we got closer I started getting hyped up. Then we were there waiting in line. I was super excited, we were in NYC and this was actual Broadway, not a small actors or Highschool play.
When we went, the theatre was gorgeous! The ceiling (see picture below) was so pretty! The stage was super cool. There was real sand everywhere and a tire was filled with water. At some point there's real water raining down on them and fire too! I really wish I could learn how that stage works.
I bought the Outsiders book at a small(ish) bookstore in NY and I really want to ship it to the theatre and see if the cast would sign it. I emailed one of the cast members and DMed their Instagram, but was left on seen. I don't know if that will ever happen, but I think it is cool that i tried.
My absolute favorite scene was the Rumble Scene, the choreo was awesome! Some of it is shown in the video below, but the whole thing together is amazing! My friends and I couldn't stop listening to the soundtrack after we saw the production.
